Do you know the feeling, when you are so deep into an idea, so deep that you can’t understand why the “world” is not as passionate about it as you are? It doesn’t matter if it is a great slide or the next big thing, it used to be very hard for me when the audience seemed to not catch on fire. During my first years in business I had to learn the hard way that the beauty of an idea lies in the eye of the beholder.
Last week at my MIT courses we examined this phenomenon in detail and one of our reference cases was the launch of the Segway. The Segway is an electrical human moving device with just two wheels, which works a little bit like snowboarding. Just by leaning forward or backward you steer the Segway and with only two wheels it is incredibly agile. On our last team meeting we did a Segway tour through San Francisco and it was one of the greatest ways to explore the city. Even one of my MIT-classmates shared the story that at his employer, the San Diego Zoo, one of the main attractions is the Segway tours.
